Treatments for Carpet Stains

    Pet Stains

    • Pet stains are usually very difficult to deal with because you are dealing with the stain and the smell. Fortunately, there are ways to manage both problems and keep your carpet fresh and clean. If there was a solid accident, use plastic gloves to pick up the mess; if it is urine begin blotting the stain. Do not scrub, you'll only be pushing the stain further into the fibers. Purchase a special stain-removing product geared toward pets. Next create a mixture of 1/4 cup of vinegar and a quart of warm water. Spray the mixture onto the carpet, allow it to absorb and then begin blotting. Vinegar has odor reducing properties.

    Red Wine or Grape Juice

    • Red wine and grape juice are the most dreaded of all stains. That deep burgundy color seems impossible to clean up. Blot the stain with a clean towel, absorb as much of the stain as possible. Create a mixture of 1 tbsp. ammonia in 1 cup of water. Wet the stain with the mixture and let it sit for five minutes. Use another clean towel to blot. Repeat until the stain is gone.

    Tomato Sauce

    • Now you can host that pizza party sleepover for your kids, knowing that you'll be able to clean up any pizza sauce that gets spilled on the carpet. Immediately pick up or scrape away whatever caused the stain. Then create a mixture of 2 cups of cool water and 1 tbsp. dishwashing liquid. Spray the stain immediately and blot. Repeat until the stain is gone. If the stain smells garlicky you can also apply the vinegar water mixture.

    Blood

    • Accidents can always happen, whether someone cuts himself or has a bloody nose. It will help preserve the life of your carpet if you know how to deal with these messy situations. If possible, clean immediately. The longer the blood sits, the more difficult it will be to remove. Remember to use only cold water on blood stains, hot water will only set the stain in deeper. Do not scrub the stain, blot at it. After you have blotted the stain, pour a little bit of hydrogen peroxide right onto the stain. Begin blotting at the stain. Repeat until the stain is gone.
