- 1). Turn on your washing machine with the load size set to large on a warm water cycle. Do not use a hot water cycle as this can cause shrinkage.
- 2). Add in a capful of a mild laundry detergent.
- 3). Pour in about 1/2 cup baking soda if the towels have been in musty storage, or if they need brightening. The baking soda safely boosts cleaning power while also deodorizing.
- 4). Place the towels in the dryer, using a permanent press setting. Check the towels every 20 minutes or so, as you don't want to over-dry them. Over-drying can degrade the fabric, which leads to fiber breakdown over time. You don't want the towels to be wet, but they shouldn't be hot, either.
- 5). Fold the towels, and either re-hang them or put them away in storage. The best storage for linen towels that are not in use is in a plastic bag in a cool cupboard. The plastic will keep the towels dust-free, and keeping towels out of the sunlight and away from heat sources will keep them from fading.
