No matter how careful you are, grease can splatter on walls and floors while you're cooking. The easiest way to remove it is to clean it as soon as it lands on your walls and floors, but that's not always possible. Use one or more homemade or commercial grease-cutting cleaners to remove grease from floors and walls. - Cleaners to remove greasy residue can be made from products you have in your home. Mix 1 gallon of warm water, 1/2 cup of clear ammonia, 1/4 cup of white vinegar and 1/4 cup of washing soda in a bucket, and wet a scrubbing pad with the solution. Scrub the walls, working from top to bottom. Empty the solution when it begins to get dirty and mix a new batch. Another homemade solution uses 2 tbsp. of baking soda and 1 qt. of warm water to clean surfaces. Wet a cellulose sponge with the solution and rub grease stains. If they are not removed, use the baking soda as you would a cleanser. Rinse with a mixture of half vinegar and half warm water. Label all homemade cleaning solutions and store them with other cleaning materials.
- Many heavy-duty grease-cutting multipurpose sprays work well to remove grease stains. The trick is to keep the greasy area moistened by respraying each time it begins to dry so the solution is able to work on the residue for at least 20 minutes. Use a stiff-bristled brush on sturdy wall and flooring material that can't be damaged, a scrubbing pad on materials that don't scratch easily and a soft rag on materials that can scratch easily. Dish detergent in hot water that removes grease from pots and pans can also work well on walls and floors as long as you rinse thoroughly. Avoid using degreasers with wax, sodium or silicate additives that leave sticky residue on floors. Don't use powdered cleansers on surfaces that can scratch.
- Grease residue spots and stains on wallpaper can be removed by holding a stack of clean white paper towels on the spots and pressing them with a warm iron. The paper towels should absorb the heated grease. Repeat until the grease is gone. Use a putty knife to gently scrape off stubborn grease residue.
