How to Clean Up Vinyl Adhesive

    • 1). Fill a bucket with a ½ gallon of warm water. Wear latex gloves to keep your hands from getting wet.

    • 2). Dip a soft cloth into the bucket of water. Wring out excess water.

    • 3). Wipe up the vinyl adhesive with the damp cloth if you just spilled the adhesive. Re-dip the cloth in the water as needed. Continue wiping up the spilled vinyl adhesive and then skip to step 5.

    • 4). Scrape the spilled vinyl adhesive gently with a putty knife, if the vinyl adhesive is dry. Hold the scraper at a 45 degree angle and use your fingers to pull the dry vinyl adhesive as you are scrapping it. Wipe the putty knife's blade frequently with a cloth.

    • 5). Apply 2 tbsp. of acetone or mineral spirits to a soft cloth. Wring out excess acetone or mineral spirits into a bucket. Wear a mask during this step. Open a window or door to ventilate the area where you are cleaning up the vinyl adhesive.

    • 6). Scrub the area where the vinyl adhesive spilled gently with the acetone- or mineral spirits-soaked cloth. Continue scrubbing the area until any remaining fragments of the vinyl adhesive are gone.

    • 7). Wet a soft cloth with warm water from a sink.

    • 8). Wipe the surface clean with the damp cloth where the spilled vinyl adhesive was.
