What are Prefabricated Homes?

    The Process

    • The modules are joined together at the site using adhesives that seal the joints and screws. The wiring and plumbing are done after the modules are joined together. Prefab homes are also referred to as modular homes because they come built in sections (modules.) Prefabricated homes must adhere to all building codes and undergo inspection before being transported to their final destinations. As they are put together they are inspected once again by a building inspector to assure that they are up to code. A prefabricated home is not a manufactured home. The latter is another name for a trailer

    Facts

    • Prefab homes are less expensive than custom built homes. It is possible to order a prefabricated home and have it constructed, situated in a lot and entirely functioning in a quarter of a year.

    Strong

    • Prefabricated homes may actually be stronger than conventionally built homes due to the use of screws instead of nails. The screw strength is reinforced by the industrial-strength glues that are used.

    Prefab Benefits

    • Prefabricated or modular homes are more expensive per square foot than manufactured homes and are also larger. Some even have fireplaces. If upgrades made to a prefab home over the years, including porches and sun rooms, can significantly increase its value, although the home equity will increase on its own even without updates and additions.

    Hard to Tell the Difference

    • Once a prefabricated home is assembled it is hard to tell that it's not a traditionally built home.

    Energy Efficient

    • Prefabricated homes are energy efficient and will save you money. They are also less costly and easier to maintain than conventional structures.
