How to Remove Durastone Flooring

    • 1). Remove any furniture or other objects that may be on top of the Durastone tiles. To avoid damage from flying debris, place them in another room.

    • 2). Cover doorways, appliances and furniture that can't be moved with plastic sheeting to help protect them from damage. Use scissors to cut the sheeting to size and secure with tape.

    • 3). Remove the base molding around the perimeter of the room. Insert the end of a chisel or pry bar in between the wall and molding and pry the molding away from the wall.

    • 4). Choose a tile along the edge of the room. Attach a grout cutting blade to a rotary cutting tool. Cut the grout away from around all the corners of the tile.

    • 5). Insert a prybar or chisel in the space between the Durastone tile and any one of the adjacent sides. Pry the tile up and off the floor. If needed, wedge the tile up with the prybar while hammering a chisel underneath in order to break the tile away from the floor cement.

    • 6). Continue with the process of sawing away the grout between the tiles and then prying the tile up and off the floor. Work your way across the room from one wall to the other. As you work, you may find that several pieces of Durastone tile may come up at one time.

    • 7). Sweep up any debris with a broom, dustpan and Shop Vac.
