- 1). Remove all of the furniture from the room where there is lead paint.
- 2). Apply non-flammable solvent or abrasive compound to a small area of the wall with a damp cloth to loosen the paint. Follow the specific instructions on the solvent or abrasive, as different products have different instructions.
- 3). Scrape the paint off with a wire brush. Brush in circular motions and take extra care around the edges of the walls to make sure you remove all of the lead paint.
- 4). Apply solvent or abrasive to another small area on the wall and scrape the paint off with a wire brush, as in steps 2 and 3.
- 5). Bag all of the paint in doubled plastic trash bags to discard. Clean all the surfaces with wet paper towels. Wet mop the floor. Use an HEPA-equiped vacuum on everything in the room.
