- 1). Turn the tiered skirt inside out and lay flat in front of you. Fold directly in half vertically. Determine the placement of the pants seam by measuring 6 to 8 inches downward from the waist. Mark with a sewing pin.
- 2). Cut from the bottom of the skirt upward to the pin while the skirt is still folded in half. Unfold after cutting. There will now be two open pieces of the skirt.
- 3). Lay flat in front of you. Along the inside of the left flap, double-fold the newly cut pieces together creating a 1/2-inch hem. Using the sewing pins, pin from the bottom upward. Repeat for the right side. Each of these pieces will form the new tier-style legs of the pants.
- 4). Sew the hem along the insides of each piece using the sewing machine and thread. Tight, medium stitches should work best to secure the folded seam. Double-check for any loose stitches and correct.
- 5). Cut an oval-shaped piece of matching fabric to fit between the leg portions of the pants. Pin between the two cut pieces, joining them together. Hand sew using the thread and needle with tight stitches that will allow for some movement.
