- 1). Mark the wall where you plan to install one end of the curtain rod. Measure and note the location of the mark in relation to the upper corner of the window. Measure both the vertical and lateral distances between the mark and the upper corner of the window.
- 2). Choose one corner of a left or right bracket and position it on the corresponding wall at the reference mark. Use a pencil to mark the positions of the screw holes in the base plate of the mounting bracket. Repeat to mark the positions of the screw holes on the opposite side of the window.
- 3). Drill pilot holes through the screw-hole marks and into the wall. The resistance on the drill bit will tell you whether you are drilling into a hollow wall or a framing stud. If you are drilling into a hollow part of the wall, enlarge the screw holes with a slightly larger bit to receive the wall anchors. Use wall anchors if necessary.
- 4). Reposition one mounting bracket on the wall. Align the screw holes in the bracket to the pilot holes or anchors in the wall. Screw the bracket to the wall. Repeat to install the mounting bracket on the opposite side of the window.
- 5). Thread the sheer panels onto the inner rod that will hang closest to the window. Hang the rod on the inner supports of the mounting brackets. Evenly distribute the panels across the rod. Repeat to hang the outer curtains.
