- 1). Measure the back of one of the seats in your SUV, using the measuring tape. Note the height and width of the seat back and add 1.5 inches to each measurement to give you space for your seam allowance.
- 2). Lay out your upholstery fabric on a table. Use your measurements for the seat back and measure out the amount of fabric you will need. Cut the fabric with your scissors to form the front of your seat back cover. Repeat this step to cut the back of your seat back cover.
- 3). Pin the front and back of the seat cover together using your sewing pins. Make sure the right sides of the fabric are facing each other.
- 4). Sew together the front and back pieces of your seat cover with a 1-inch seam allowance, using your sewing machine.
- 5). Turn your sewn together pieces inside out. You now have a cover that you can place over the seat back in your SUV. Repeat these steps for each seat back you would like covered in your SUV.
