How to Replace a Nintendo DS Microphone

    • 1). Turn off your DS and turn the unit over. Remove the single screw holding the battery cover in place and remove the cover. Take out the battery.

    • 2). Pop the two rubber pads off of the side of the back of the DS to expose two screws. Remove these screws as well as every other screw on the rear panel of the unit.

    • 3). Pry the back cover off of the DS to expose the motherboard inside.

    • 4). Unplug the two cables from the top of the motherboard.

    • 5). Remove the single screw in the center of the motherboard. This is the screw that holds the motherboard in place.

    • 6). Lift the motherboard up and unplug the orange connector cable from its port on the underside of the board. The screen will be connected to the underside of the motherboard as well. Remove the whole motherboard and screen assembly, and set it aside. You will now be left with the remaining top screen in its housing.

    • 7). Remove the four screws on the corners of the plastic case over the remaining LCD screen.

    • 8). Remove the screen casing to expose the two circular speakers on either side of the LCD screen.

    • 9). Unplug the speakers from their ports on either side of the screen, and remove the speakers.

    • 10

Fit new speakers in the old one's places and reverse Steps 1 through 9 for reassembly.
