- 1). Measure the depth from the bottom panel of your cabinet to the edge of your cabinet's front trim. In addition, measure the length of the cabinet. Record these measurements to use when purchasing fixtures, which will remain hidden behind the front trim of the cabinet.
- 2). Hire the services of an electrician to run the wiring from the location under your cabinet to your home's circuit breaker. Ask the electrician to install a separate light switch if you want one.
- 3). Purchase your desired lighting fixtures and have a partner assist in holding the body of the fixture up against the bottom of the cabinet. Your fixture chassis will have four or more screw holes that are to be used for mounting the fixture to the surface. Using a pencil or a dark-colored marker, mark the location of each hole on the underside of the cabinet, and then remove the fixture body.
- 4). Use a drill with a 1/8-inch drill bit to drill starter holes in the center of each mark. Don't drill all the way through the cabinet surface. You only need to drill 1/16 of an inch into the material to assist in starting each self-tapping screw into the material.
- 5). Have your partner hold the light fixture body against the underside of the cabinet once again. Gently move the fixture to align the screw holes with the fixture holes and install the mounting screws.
- 6). Make sure the circuit breaker and any associated light switch is turned off. Connect your house wiring to the light fixture's wiring according to the directions provided by the fixture's manufacturer.
- 7). Install the light bulbs and the fixture cover.
