Major Advantages of LED Lamps

It was Thomas Alva Edison, the great inventor and scientist, who was the first one to introduce electrical lighting to mankind through his invention of a carbon based incandescent bulb.
Through the decades, many improvements have been there in the field and over 80% of the world is electrified.
These days, people care more and more about saving energy and because of this, incandescent bulb gave way to fluorescent lamps, and recently, to the latest energy saving mantra - LED lamps.
LED (Light Emitting Diode) lamps function on simple technology and produces different colored lights, based on the semi conductor used, cost effectively.
LED's are gaining much popularity these days due to its cost effectiveness and minimal pollution factors.
Here, in this article, let us focus on the various advantages which LED's have compared to other forms of lighting.
1.
Compared to incandescent bulbs, LED's are highly efficient.
They produce more light with lesser consumption of electricity.
Also, unlike other lights, this efficiency is not affected by the shape or size of the bulb.
2.
Size is a major benefit.
LED's can be manufactured from less than 2 sq.
mm.
The population of LED's into small electronic circuit boards can be done easily.
3.
Unlike traditional methods of lighting, LED's can emit any intended color which is available without using any color filters.
The initial costs of production can be lowered easily by this.
4.
You must have seen that fluorescent tubes take lot of time to light up, especially under low voltage circumstances.
LED's do not have this problem, they light up very quickly using the minimum amount of energy.
Very quickly means, in a matter of microseconds! 5.
Unlike fluorescent lamps or HID lamps, LED's are very convenient in using for functions which are subject to frequent on-off cycling.
6.
The lifetime of LED's are many folds that of other lights.
A study shows that at full efficiency an LED can work up to 11 years, non-stop! Please note that the conditions of use also decides the lifetime of the LED.
7.
Unlike incandescent bulbs LED's do not stop working immediately.
They seize working by gradual dimming of light.
8.
Unlike other lights LED's do not need the help of light reflectors to focus light.
Scattering is very low and focusing can be an easy job.
9.
Toxicity is very much low unlike fluorescent lamps which contain mercury.
10.
LED's produce very little heat when lighting.
