Air Conditioning Service & Maintenance

    Maintenance Tips

    • Remove any brush, bushes or objects from the immediate area around your system. Your HVAC system works by drawing air inside and any obstruction will affect the airflow and reduce the system's efficiency. Obstructions could also cause damage to vital parts, such as the fan and keep your unit free of objects during the winter, especially if you have a heat pump.

Tighten all access panels. Open panels will allow objects inside, which could damage your system. Use a soft brush to wipe the grille panels to remove any particle buildup.

Replace the filter regularly. Filters capture dirt, dust and microscopic particles that can reduce the efficiency of your cooling system as well as cause damage. Replacing a disposable filter once a month, and washing a reusable filter every two weeks, will maintain proper air flow and prevent icing on the evaporator, which could shut down your system.

Maintain a comfortable temperature. There's no reason to set your thermostat to 68 degrees when it's hot and muggy outside. Keep the temperature at 72 degrees, which will keep your home cool and comfortable while allowing the system to operate at peak efficiency. Lower settings will only force your system to work longer, and harder.

    Call a Professional

    • HVAC systems are expensive to replace so it makes sense to call a professional twice a year, in the fall and the spring, for regular servicing. You should also call a professional if your system is making a loud noise, vibrating, or not producing cool air. Use a North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certified professional to check your system. Problems could be anything from loose belts to low coolant levels.
