How to Replace an LCD Display on a Compaq Presario F500

    • 1). Lay the computer face-down with the front edge closest to you. Slide the battery release slide lever to the left as you lift the front edge of the battery up out of the bay.

    • 2). Loosen the three screws on the memory module compartment cover and lift the left side of the cover to remove it from the computer. Pull the antenna cables off their connectors on the wireless card, located in the memory module compartment.

    • 3). Remove the three switch cover screws from the rear edge of the bottom of the computer. One is in each corner and one just in front of the battery bay. Remove the three keyboard screws. Two are in the battery bay and one is just behind the hard drive bay. Turn the computer over and open the display as far as you can. Grasp the rear edge of the switch cover and flip it over onto the keyboard. Lift the LED board cable connector to unlock it and slide the ribbon cable out. Remove the switch cover.

    • 4). Lift the rear edge of the keyboard and slide it back to disengage the front tabs. Flip it over so it rests face down on the palm rest. Lift the keyboard cable connector to unlock it and slide the cable out. Remove the keyboard.

    • 5). Pull the display assembly connector straight up to disconnect it from the motherboard. Remove the antenna cables from the clips in the top of the computer and pull the cables up through the hole in the bottom of the computer case.

    • 6). Remove the two screws in each display hinge and remove the display from the computer. Make sure you support the display as you remove the screws.

    Replacement

    • 1). Place the display on the computer and insert the two hinge screws.

    • 2). Connect the display cable to the motherboard, attach the antenna cables to their clips and route the antenna cables through the hole in the bottom of the case.

    • 3). Position the keyboard on the palm rest, insert the ribbon cable into the connector and press down the connector to lock it. Flip the keyboard over and insert the tabs into the slots along the front edge of the palm rest.

    • 4). Insert the LED board ribbon cable, attached to the switch cover, into its connector and press down the connector to lock it. Arrange the switch cover, close the display and turn the computer over. Replace the three switch cover screws and the three keyboard screws.

    • 5). Snap the antenna cables onto their posts. Attach the black cable to the terminal marked "Main" and the gray cable to the terminal marked "Aux." Replace the memory module cover and tighten the screw.

    • 6). Insert the battery into its bay.
