- 1). Feed the Temple Bells, in January and again in July, with an azalea food. Use the amount of fertilizer specified for the age and size of your shrub and scatter it over the soil, 4 inches from the base of the shrub. Rake it out 2 inches past the Pieris' widest point. Water the top 6 inches of soil to soak the fertilizer to the shrub's roots.
- 2). Water the Pieris Temple Bells to maintain evenly moist soil at all times. Hot or windy weather may require that you water more frequently.
- 3). Deadhead the Temple Bells frequently throughout the flowering season. Use pruning shears to cut the dead flower stalk into the foliage.
- 4). Inspect Pieris Temple Bells occasionally for discolored foliage. These plants are attractive to lacebugs, which you will find on the underside of the leaves. Spray insecticidal soap directly on the insects in the spring.
