How to Clean Projection Televisions

    Cathode Ray Tube Projection

    • 1). Unplug the power to your television to prevent electric shock and damage to the set.

    • 2). Determine if your television has a screen shield. If the front of the set has ridges on the screen, then there is no screen shield. Different cleaning procedures are required for both.

    • 3). Wipe down the screen with a damp microfiber cloth if there is a screen shield.

    • 4). Dilute one-third tsp. of mild soap in cup of water, and dampen a clean microfiber cloth with the solution to remove excessive grime from a screen shield.

    • 5). Visit your local television retailer, and purchase special cleaner and cloths for your projection television without a screen shield.

    • 6). Apply the cleaner according to the manufacturer's suggestions.

    Microdisplay Rear Projection

    • 1). Wipe the screen with a damp microfiber cloth.

    • 2). Use small circular motions to remove dust and debris from the screen.

    • 3). Add one-third tsp. of mild soap to one cup of water, and apply it to a microfiber cloth to wash a screen that has shine to it. If the screen is matte or without a shiny appearance, do not use cleaners other than water.
