How to Tighten the Plugs in a Pool Pump

    • 1). Turn your pool pump off by clicking the snap into the off position. Turn off the power to the pump at the main circuit breaker for the pool pump.

    • 2). Unscrew loose plugs in your pool pump with pliers, and remove them.

    • 3). Take off the old washer, if the plug has one.

    • 4). Inspect the pump plug for damage. Look for crumbling edges from water damage. Damaged or rotted pump plugs should be replaced.

    • 5). Replace the old washer with a new one of the same size.

    • 6). Screw the old plug or a new one back into the hole, and tighten the plug with pliers.

    • 7). Turn the pool pump back on, and check again for leakage around new plugs. If you find any, the pump itself may be damaged, so have a professional check it.
