How to Build an Easy Outdoor Water Fountain

    • 1). Seal the hole in a large terra-cotta pot with foam sealant. Place the pot where you want your fountain to be.

    • 2). Cut a piece of 1-inch plastic tubing as long as your finished fountain will be tall. Insert one end into the water pump. Set the pump in the center of the base pot with the cord running over the rim and toward a grounded power outlet.

    • 3). Set three terra-cotta feet around the pump. Turn the first, larger, support pot upside down and set it over the pump, with the rim sitting on the feet. Run the tubing through the hole in the center of that pot. Seal the hole around the tubing with foam sealant.

    • 4). Set the medium pot on top of the first support pot with the tubing running through the hole. Seal the hole around the tubing with foam sealant. Set the second, smaller terra cotta support pot inside the second pot with the tubing running through the hole. Seal the hole around the tubing with foam sealant.

    • 5). Set the smallest pot on top of the second support pot. Pull the tubing through the hole and trim it so it's 6 inches long. Seal the hole around the tube with foam sealant. Add a flow control valve 2 inches from the end of the tube.

    • 6). Add water until all three pots are overflowing, then turn on the water pump.
