How to Apply Gossamer Silk to Dolls' Heads

    • 1). Fold a piece of cardboard twice the length of the doll hair in half. Wrap gossamer silk floss around the cardboard from one end of the cardboard to the other. Place a large rubber band perpendicular to the floss, across the floss and around the sides of the cardboard. This will hold the floss in place. Cut the floss along the open end of the cardboard.

    • 2). Remove the rubber band while holding the ends of the floss. Stretch the floss out in a single pile. Take a small piece of extra floss and tie it around the center of the pile.

    • 3). Examine the doll head. There should be a line for the brow hair all the way around to the nape of the neck. If there isn't a line, draw a line in pencil. Draw another line representing the part. This will accommodate most common hair styles. If you want a side part option, draw additional lines for each part.

    • 4). Pick up six individual floss threads. Often floss spins into a single larger thread. Thread the six threads through the eye of a flossing needle. A flossing needle has a long eye. Bring the ends of the threads together and tie an overhand knot.

    • 5). Insert the needle through the neck opening of the doll. If you are uncertain where the brow line is in relation to your needle then aim your needle into the hair section of the head. Press the point of the needle through the head. Pull the needle straight through. Cut the thread at the needle with scissors. Your initial piercing will help you locate the spot for the next tuft of hair. Root hair along the hairline first. Root hair along the parts second. Fill in the rest of the head after these areas are complete.

    • 6). Roll a piece of foil into a tube. Press the neck of the doll onto one end. Place the other end in the bottom of a mug so that the head and hair do not touch the sides of the mug. Pour hot water over the head to relax the hair. Allow the hair to dry before cutting and styling the hair.

    • 7). Paint quick grab glue on the inside of the head with a disposable artist's brush before mounting the head on the doll body. The glue will reinforce the knots and keep the hair in place.
