- 1). Arrange the A/V components in a shelf storage system or entertainment center so that the A/V receiver is on top and unobstructed. The receiver vents must be free to circulate air.
- 2). Connect A/V components to the labeled jacks on the receiver using stereo and A/V cables. A CD player, for example, connects with white and red stereo cables to the left and right audio inputs on the rear of the receiver. Connect a DVD player with the yellow, white and red plugs on a composite cable, matching each connector to the colors on the receiver jacks for a DVD player.
- 3). Cut and strip 1/2 inch of plastic coating from each end of a speaker wire and connect the two wires on one end to the red and black terminals on the receiver for each speaker. The other ends of each wire connect to the back of each speaker. Use the wire from the red receiver terminal to connect with the red terminal on the speaker to avoid crossing the stereo signal.
- 4). Plug in a subwoofer cable from the back of the subwoofer to the Sub output jack on the rear of the receiver.
- 5). Connect a video cable from the video out jack on the receiver to a video input jack on the back of the TV. For instance, a component video connection uses red, blue and green cable plugs to connect with the red, blue and green video jacks on each component.
- 6). Connect all electrical cords to a surge protector and plug it into a wall outlet.
