How to Uninstall Windows 98 & Upgrade to XP

    Uninstall Windows 98

    • 1). Click the "Start" button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen. Highlight the "Settings" button, and click the "Control Panel" button in the menu that appears.

    • 2). Double click the "Add/Remove Programs" icon in the Control Panel window. Double click the "Uninstall Windows 98" button, and click the "Add/Remove" button that appears. Click the "Yes" button in the Windows that pops up.

    • 3). Click "Yes" when asked if you would like your disks to be checked for any errors. Click "Yes" to shut down your computer and allow the uninstall process to complete after the disk error scan is complete.

    • 4). Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the removal of Windows 98. Shut your computer down once the process is completed.

    Install Windows XP

    • 1). Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD drive. Press any key on your keyboard when the "Press any key to boot from CD" prompt displays on your screen.

    • 2). Press the "Enter" key on your keyboard once the "Welcome to Setup" window appears. Read through the license terms for the software, and press the "F8" key on your keyboard if you agree to them.

    • 3). Select the drive that you would like Windows XP to be installed on. Follow along with the instructions provided by Windows XP, and the installation will complete. Windows XP will now be installed on your computer, while Windows 98 will be completely removed.
