How to Cut Window Trim With a Miter Saw

    • 1). Determine the trim angle by using a square or another tool that is designed to find angles. Once the angle is found, mark it with a pencil.

    • 2). Adjust the miter saw blade to the correct angle to cut the trim. This is done by releasing the lock located at the base of the miter saw table and then sliding it to the correct degree marker. Make sure to lock it back into place.

    • 3). Place the trim on the miter saw table. The back of the trim should be facing down and the edge of the trim should be pressed firmly against the fencing. Lower the miter saw blade so that it rests against the trim. Make any adjustments to the trim so that the blade will cut along the marked line.

    • 4). Raise the blade to the upright position and turn the miter saw on. Lower the saw blade to the trim and slowly cut while firmly pressing the trim against the fence; keep your fingers out of the blade's path. Release the miter saw's power button and allow the blade come to a complete stop once trim is cut. Raise the miter saw blade to the upright position and remove the trim and any scraps that may be present.

    • 5). Using a tape measure, determine the length of the trim needed to fit the window. Place the butt of the tape measure at the short end of the cut made on the trim and measure the length. Make a mark with a pencil; this is where you will make the next cut with the miter saw.

    • 6). Loosen the miter saw's lock to reverse the saw angle and swing it to the opposite side of the trim. The opposite side will have the same angle markers so that an identical cut can be made in the other direction.

    • 7). Repeat the steps to make the cut into the trim. The only difference will be the angle at which the miter saw blade is pointing.
