- 1). Put on work gloves, safety glasses and a dust mask to protect your skin, eyes and lungs.
- 2). Measure a 12-by-18-inch rectangle onto a 1-inch-thick panel of wood using a measuring tape, and mark it with a pencil. Cut out the rectangle with a saw. Measure and draw a 1-by-12-inch rectangle onto a 1-inch-thick piece of wood. Cut out the second rectangle with a saw. Smooth both wood pieces with 120 grit sand paper.
- 3). Lay the 12-by-18-inch piece onto a flat surface. Place the 1-by-12-inch piece atop the first piece. Adjust the 1-by-12-inch piece so it lies flush with one of the short 12-by-18-inch edges. Evenly space and attach both pieces together with 1 1/2-inch wood screws. The body of the "box" — or ramp — is complete.
- 4). Flip the ramp over so the 1-by-12-inch strip is on the underside. Adjust the box so the strip is on the far end. The downward slope of the ramp allows your foot to tap effortlessly on top.
- 5). Bond a 12-by-18-inch piece of faux fleece to the top of the ramp with permanent epoxy. Flip a 5-inch paper speaker cone upside down. Bond the upside-down paper cone to the top of the ramp at center with permanent epoxy.
- 6). Connect the speaker cone to an 8-ohm speaker with standard speaker wires. Turn on the speaker. Tap the ramp with your foot to generate a bass drum-like "thumping" sound.
