Update to SP2 Using the Automated Update System.

• 1). Go to the Windows Update website. A link to the Windows Update website is located at the end of this article in the "Resources" section.
  
  
• 2). Select "Express." Your computer will then be scanned for needed updates.
  
  You may be asked to update your version of the Windows Genuine Advantage tool before continuing. If you are asked to do so, click the "Download and Install Now" button. Wait for the install to complete, and then press the "Continue" button.
  
  The Windows Genuine Advantage tool is used to verify that you are using a legitimate version of Windows XP.
  
  
• 3). Press "Install Updates" to download and install the latest updates, including SP2.
  
  
• 4). Wait for the update to finish installing. Once the update has finished, press the "Restart Now" button to restart your computer.
  
  

Update to SP2 Manually

• 1). Download the SP2 installation file. A link to the download page is located at the end of this article in the "Resources" section.
  
  
• 2). Open the file and click the "Next" button, select "I Agree" and then press "Next" again to start the installation.
  
  
• 3). Wait for SP2 to finish installing. Once it has finished, press the "Restart" button to restart your computer.
