Protect your pet's food from ant invasions with a boarder of petroleum jelly.Cat's food image by Alexey Stiop from Fotolia.com

Rub petroleum jelly around the base of your pet's food bowls. Pet food is an easy food source for ants, and they will not cross the petroleum jelly boarder to get to the food.

    • 4). Place a thin layer or line of diatomaceous earth on the floor near doorways or along windowsills where ants are entering the kitchen. Diatomaceous earth is a natural powder that kills ants by cutting their exoskeletons, resulting in the ants dehydrating. Diatomaceous earth is safe to use around humans and pets.
