Knit Instructions for the Long Loop Stitch

    • 1). Cast on any number of stitches using your preferred cast on, such as the cable cast on. To cable cast on, make a slip stitch at the end of your yarn and slide the loop over your left hand needle. Knit into this loop, but don't drop the stitch from the needle. Slide your newly made stitch onto the left needle with the original one and repeat, always knitting into the newest stitch, until you have the number of stitches you require.

    • 2). Knit the first stitch but don't drop it from your left needle. Make a loop with your working yarn -- the yarn attached to the skein -- and pass it between the needles from the back of your work -- the side facing away from you -- to the front, or the side you are looking at. Slide the loop over your thumb to anchor it to the front of your work.

    • 3). Knit the first stitch on your left hand needle again, this time dropping it from the left hand needle. You now have two stitches on your right hand needle with a loop pinned between them. Put the tip of your left needle in the loop of the first stitch and pass it over the second stitch and off the right needle. This locks your loop in place. Alternately, you could slide both stitches from the right-hand needle back to the left and knit them together. Continue across the row, performing this stitch all the way across.

    • 4). Knit the next row. Don't do another row of loop stitch as it will make your fabric double thick.

    • 5). Repeat these two rows for your loop knitting pattern.
