- 1). Arrange the mosaic tile or stone pieces into the pattern desired for the medallion. Arrange the pieces on a flat surface large enough to contain two of the completed medallions side by side. Leave any gaps between the pieces necessary to allow for expansion of the tiles or stones once set into place. Gaps usually extend between 1/8 and 1/4-inch in size.
- 2). Lay the mesh-mount paper flat onto the work surface next to the set medallion pattern. Place it on a sheet of waxed paper to keep the mesh-mount paper from sticking to the work surface. Cut the mesh with a pair of scissors so that it’s slightly larger in diameter than the pattern, about 2-inches.
- 3). Spread the PVA glue over the mesh-mount paper in a small 2-foot square section. Use a paintbrush to spread the glue evenly. Lift each tile or stone from the pattern and transfer the tile or stone to the mesh surface, placing it into the same position it was set in the arranged pattern. Press lightly on the stone to adhere it to the mesh surface. Maintain the spacing and positioning of the tiles or stones during transfer. Wipe away any excess adhesive from the faces of the stones immediately with a damp cloth.
- 4). Allow the tiles or stones to dry to the mesh surface for 24 hours. Trim the mesh to the edges of the medallion by using the scissors. Lift the medallion from the waxed paper and move the medallion wherever desired. Use a thinset mortar or asphalt mastic as adhesive to mount the medallion in it's final location..
