How to Cure Tobacco Leaves

    • 1). Harvest the ripe tobacco plants. This can be done by cutting the plants at ground level or by pulling the ripe leaves from the stalk.

    • 2). Tie the ripe leaves into bundles using the string. You will achieve better results and reduce the risk of spoilage if you keep the clusters small.

    • 3). Place the bundles over the hanging racks. You will want to space the bundles to allow the air to dry each bundle evenly.

    • 4). Monitor the temperature in the drying area to make sure it is between 60 and 90 degrees F. You will achieve greater success in drying if you are able to maintain the humidity level in the room at no more than 70 percent.

    • 5). Allow the bundles to dry for at least one year before attempting to consume.
