How to Repot a Majesty Palm

    • 1). Observe the plant to see if it is ready to be repotted. There are several visual clues that show whether a palm tree is ready to be repotted. One sign is whether the root ball can be removed easily from the pot. Shake the pot to see if the roots will come away easily from the pot -- if they do you are ready to repot.

    • 2). Prepare the new potting soil. Mix slow-release fertilizer or blood meal into the soil. You should never put roots in direct contact with palm roots when repotting.

    • 3). Place the fertilizer and soil mixture in the bottom of the new pot. There should be about 10 inches of soil between the bottom of the pot and the root ball.

    • 4). Place the root ball into the container, being very careful not to break it apart. You should not have to tease or separate the roots while repotting.

    • 5). Shake the pot so that the soil in the bottom is forced into the crevices around the roots.

    • 6). Fill the rest of the pot with additional soil to fill in the gaps after the soil has settled into the roots.

    • 7). Water the palm immediately after repotting. Larger plants will need a larger supply of water, so make sure you water the plant until you see water trickling from the bottom of the pot.
