People invest a huge amount of time and effort into making sure that their home is decorated in just the right way.
Naturally everyone wants a home that is comfortable and organised but it is really easy for a room to get messy, especially with kids and pets running riot.
One way to make sure that your home remains presentable is to find a suitable place to put all of your home entertainment equipment.
However, placing a large flat screen TV in a room isn't as simple as it sounds.
For instance, you need to find a place that is practical; a place that offers a clear view of the screen; a place where the screen doesn't suffer from glare.
It can be difficult to find such a place, especially in smaller rooms.
This is the main reason why TV wall mounts have enjoyed an increase in popularity: they allow you to be much more flexible in deciding exactly where to place your TV; these wall mounts are also a great way of saving precious floor space, which is always an added bonus.
If you are considering mounting your TV on the wall, then here are a few simple tips that will help you choose the ideal spot so that you can keep your home tidy, and get the most out of your viewing experience.
Wall mounting your TV is very much like hanging a picture - you have to think about where you will be viewing it from, how high on the wall it should be, and where it will make the biggest impact.
As a general rule of thumb most art galleries hang pictures so that the centre of the image is at eye level for the people who are standing up and looking at it.
Finding the best spot for your TV is a little different because you'll be sitting down to watch it.
A lot of people find that the TV feels too low down if it is mounted at their eye level when they are sitting down, but they also don't like having to strain their necks to stare upwards at a TV that is too high, so how can you find the right spot? The answer is actually really simple! You'll already have a basic idea of whereabouts you would like your TV to be hung, so simply find a poster or cut out a sheet of paper that is about the same size as your display, and put this up on the wall.
Leave the poster on the wall for a couple of days to see if it's in a spot that is easy to look at, or whether it hurts your eyes or neck to look at it.
Repeat this process until you find the perfect spot.
Once you have found a location you prefer, you need to make sure that the wall is able to take the weight of the TV and wall mount bracket.
If the wall is solid brickwork then you don't have to worry, but if the wall is made of plasterboard then you need to be sure that your mount is secured to a wall stud, as plasterboard is too weak to support the weight by itself.
Remember that you can get different types of TV mounts, some feature mechanisms that allow you to tilt and rotate the TV and some even have fully articulated joints, so if you are using this type of mount you will be able to fine tune the position of your TV once it is mounted.
Most mounts are designed with self installation in mind, but it's always best to get a friend to help you out since TVs can be quite heavy and awkward to move around.
If you get in any trouble you can always call a professional fitter to come and do the hard work for you.
