- 1). Install a tow hitch and trailer light hook up on the vehicle that will be pulling the trailer. Most moving vans will already have a tow hitch and light attachment, but if not you will need to have them installed. Most mechanic and auto body shops can install a tow hitch and light attachment on a vehicle. Fortunately, since the Fusion is a small car and not a particularly heavy vehicle, almost all hitches should be able to handle the Fusion's weight. To be on the safe side, however, you should look for a hitch that can support at least a half ton of weight.
- 2). Purchase or rent a tow dolly. Read the tow dolly's instruction or user manual carefully, as it will give specific information you need to use that particular make and model of tow dolly.
- 3). Attach the tow dolly to the pulling vehicle. Make sure the light connectors on the trailer will work with the trailer light attchment. If the lights will not work, take vehicle and tow dolly to a mechanic to have any problems repaired. It is crucial that you have trailer lights while towing your vehicle.
- 4). Carefully drive the Ford Fusion's front tires onto the car dolly. Put the Fusion in park with the emergency brake engaged while you secure the vehicle onto the trailer using the straps or chains that came with the car dolly.
- 5). Put the Ford Fusion in neutral and disengage emergency brake once vehicle is secured on the car dolly. Add optional additional towing lights, if desired. Towing lights can be placed on top of the Fusion to improve visibility while towing the vehicle.
