How to Troubleshoot a Keyless Remote

    • 1). Change the battery in your keyless remote. Separate the two halves of the remote by inserting a plastic guitar pick into the seam on either side. Twist the plastic guitar pick back and forth until the keyless remote comes apart. Remove the old battery and replace it with a fresh one. Reassemble the keyless remote by snapping the two remote halves back together.

    • 2). Examine the battery contacts in the keyless remote for any kind of corrosion. Access the battery contacts by opening the remote as described in Step 1 and removing the battery. Rub the battery contacts with a cotton swab that has been dipped in white vinegar. Remove any vinegar residue with a tissue, or second cotton swab, before reinserting the battery and assembling the remote.

    • 3). Re-program the keyless remote to your vehicle. Note that the keyless entry remote programming process varies drastically by vehicle make and model. Consult a local dealership or service center to obtain keyless entry remote programming advice for your vehicle.
