How to Make Round Balloon Luminaries

    • 1). Pull the top pot out of the double boiler and fill the bottom pan about 2 inches deep. Put the top pot back in, set it on a burner, and turn it to medium. Place about half of your wax in the top pot and allow to melt, stirring occasionally with your skewer. Add dye, according to the instructions.

    • 2). Fill your balloons until they are mostly full. When you tie the knot, tie it around the bottom of the wire hanger, so that the balloon hangs from the hanger.

    • 3). Dip the balloon in the wax, staying below the waterline. When you pull it out, let it rest for a minute or two, then dip to the same level again. Continue dipping and resting until the wax is the thickness you desire.

    • 4). Remove the wax from the burner while you go to the bathroom or outside to hang your balloon on the shower rod or clothesline. This will give your wax balloon time to harden while maintaining the round shape.

    • 5). Put the wax back on the burner, and repeat for as many luminaries as you would like. When you place more balloons on your line or rod, make sure there's enough distance that the wax doesn't touch.

    • 6). Take all of your balloons down, and set them on the ground or on the shower floor, depending on where you are. With your bamboo skewer, pop the balloons. Dump the water out of the luminaries, gather up all of the shredded pieces of balloon and discard.

    • 7). Heat up the cookie sheet in the oven, until it is too hot to touch. Remove the cookie sheet from the oven with your pot holder, and then place the luminaries on the cookie sheet -- open side down -- and swirl the luminary around for a second before removing. Repeat with the rest of the luminaries.

    • 8). Turn on one of your tea lights and place where you would like the luminary to go. Turn the luminary so that the open side is down and place over tea light. If you feel the light is weak, add another tea light.
