How to Braid Spiral Cotton Bracelets

    • 1). Measure and cut two pieces of cotton cording: one 6-foot-long piece and one 1.5-foot-long piece. Add 1 or 2 inches to the shorter piece if you are making a bracelet for a man or for a woman with a larger wrist. Always use more cording than you think you will need because you can trim the excess off when you finish making the bracelet.

    • 2). Fold each piece of cording in half and place the folded cording pieces together, holding the folded loops in one hand.

    • 3). Tie an overhand knot in the folded cording pieces so that the knot is approximately 1 inch away from the folded ends of the cording.

    • 4). Place the pushpin at the top of the cork board and hang the cotton cording loops over the pushpin. You will construct your bracelet by tying the knots as the cording hangs down from the pushpin.

    • 5). Arrange the cording strands so the two shorter strands are in the center and the two longer strands are on either side of the shorter strands as they hang down from the pushpin.

    • 6). Make a loop facing to the right with the right long strand of cording. Cross the left long strand behind the two inner strands and then insert it up and through the right loop. Tighten the knot by pulling the two outer strands and then the two inner strands.

    • 7). Tie additional knots using the same procedure until the bracelet is as long as you desire. As you continue tying the knots, the bracelet will spiral. Stop tying knots when the bracelet is the length you want it to be.

    • 8). Remove the loop from the pushpin, bring the four tails of cording around and insert any two of the strands through the loop to create a circular bracelet shape.

    • 9). Hold two strands in one hand and two strands in the other hand and pull them gently to tighten them around the loop. Tie a double knot around the loop using the strands you are holding, making sure the knot is tight and secure. Trim the excess cords, leaving approximately 1/2 inch of each cord hanging free.
