How to Decorate a Bay Window Above the Sink

    • 1). Paint the window trim and casing in the accent hue of your kitchen for an extra punch of color. For example, paint it the same color as your molding or choose a hue that matches your dish towels or dishes.

    • 2). Hang custom shelves inside of the bay window that follow the curve, whether it is rounded or straight, depending on the style. Options include glass shelving to keep everything airy or painted wood shelves that match the trim of the window.

    • 3). Place potted plants, flowers or herbs for cooking on the shelves. Consider the addition of an indoor vegetable and fruit garden as well with items such as tomatoes and peppers, if you have a sunny south-facing window.

    • 4). Display other light-catching accessories alongside the pots, such as a collection of colored glass vases or jars. Other options include hanging suncatchers or prisms in the window to catch the light and disperse it across the room.

    • 5). Install lighting above the window that is functional as well as decorative. For example, pendant lights serve well for doing dishes after the sun sets, but some vegetables and fruits also require additional light, such as a warm-white/cool-white fluorescent fixture.

    • 6). Leave the bay window open with no window treatments to showcase the decor that you are displaying. If you feel the need for additional texture and color, hang only a simple swag valance across the front of the window to still allow the light to come in.
