- 1). Remove the sink from the from the vanity by disconnecting the water lines and downspout underneath it, using your adjustable wrench, then lift it out.
- 2). Go over the counter surface with your belt sander to dull the surface. Wipe off the dust with a tackcloth.
- 3). Measure the length of the vanity and mark the middle. Use your pencil and square to make a line from front to back.
- 4). Spread tile mastic over the counter with a notched trowel. Press a trim tile into the mastic, at the front edge the vanity, on one side of the middle line. Position the tile with the finished edge facing forward.
- 5). Set more trim tiles along the whole front edge, side by side, working to the sides. Put spacers between the tiles as you set them. Cut the tiles at the ends with a tile cutter.
- 6). Press a course of standard tiles into place behind the front row of trim tiles, starting at the middle and working to the sides. Put spacers between all of them as you lay them. Cut the end tiles as needed.
- 7). Repeat and continue, working row by row over the whole surface. Use your tile nippers to shape the tiles around the edge of the sink hole. The cuts don't have to be perfect, just close, as the sink rim will cover the edges. Let the tile mastic dry for 12 hours and remove the spacers.
- 8). Force grout into the spaces between the tiles with a grout float while squeezing it off the surface. Wipe up the excess grout with a damp sponge. Let the grout set for 24 hours.
- 9). Reinstall the sink, using the wrench to reconnect the water lines and downspout. The rim of the sink should sit over the cut edges of the tiles around the sink hole. Caulk around the joint where the sink rim meets the tile surface.
