- 1). Click the "Start" button and choose "Control Panel" from the menu. Double-click the "Printers and Faxes" icon. Click the "Classic view" option on the control panel if the printers and faxes icon is not visible.
- 2). Check the status of the print spooler if you see a message saying that no printers are installed. Go back to the control panel, double-click the "Administrative Tools" icon and then the "Services" icon. Scroll down to the "Print Spooler" service.
- 3). Right-click on the "Print Spooler" service and choose "Start" to restart the print spooler. This should restore connectivity between the HP D2680 printer and your computer.
- 4). Go to the HP website and click "Support and Drivers" at the top of the page. Enter D2680 in the search box to look for an updated driver for the Windows XP operating system. Download the driver to your computer and install it.
- 5). Shut down your computer and power down the D2680 printer. Leave both the printer and the computer off for 5 minutes. Restart the D2680 first and then the computer.
