How to Repair a Corrupt JPG File in Microsoft Windows XP

    • 1). Rename the JPG file. Locate the JPG file on your hard drive and right-click on it. Select "Rename." Type a different file name and press the "Enter" key. Sometimes, a simple rename can fix a corrupted JPG file.

    • 2). Download a JPG recovery program. Davory 2.03, PixRecovery and JPEG Recovery Pro Editor are some of the programs offer free trial editions and free downloads. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the program on your computer.

    • 3). Launch the program. You will find a menu command for the program by hitting the "Start" button and selecting "All Programs."

    • 4). Click on "Open" on the top bar of your recovery program. Browse through your hard drive to locate the corrupt JPG file. Single-click to select the file and hit "Open."

    • 5). Follow the guided on-screen prompts to repair the corrupt JPG file. Select a "destination folder" on your hard disk to save the repaired JPG file. Type a different name for the repaired JPG file and click on "Save." Navigate to the "destination folder" and open the JPG file with your favorite photo editing/viewing software to make sure the problem is fixed.
