- Some of the common white radishes include the Burpee white, snow belle, icicle, hailstone and ping pong. All the listed white radishes are spring varieties with maturity dates of 30 days or less. Plant these varieties as soon as the garden can be worked in the spring. In some cases, the radish can be planted and harvested early enough to utilize the garden space for late- or warm-season plants. The radishes come in a variety of shapes from round to tapered.
- The red radish list of varieties includes the champion, cherry belle, French breakfast, rebel and red meat. Most have maturity dates of less than 30 days although the red meat takes about twice that long to mature. Shapes vary from round to oblong or tapered. In addition, some darker or purple radishes exist and the Easter egg variety yields roots of various colors from purple through red to pink and white.
- Plant winter radishes in the late summer or fall with the roots harvested in the fall. Store them for use into the winter. Common varieties include the round black Spanish and Chinese varieties of both red and white colors. Winter radishes mature in between 50 and 70 days. Some winter radishes produce roots as long as 10 inches and resemble a turnip.
- Wild radishes are weeds found in some areas of the country and have no useful properties. The wild radish is commonly controlled by chemical herbicides or cultivation when encountered.
