- 1). Put the disc for Windows XP into your computer and restart it. Boot from the CD by pressing the appropriate key (displayed on the computer screen, but usually the DEL or F12 key) and choosing the "Boot from CD" key.
- 2). Press the "R" key to enter the Recovery Console. Select your operating system by pressing the "1" key and then pressing "Enter."
- 3). Log in to the operating system by typing in the Administrator password for your computer and pressing "Enter."
- 4). Type "fixmbr" into the Recovery Console and press "Enter." Press the "y" key and then press "Enter" to confirm your command. The MBR is repaired.
- 5). Type "exit" and press "Enter" to exit the Recovery Console. The computer reboots and you are able to boot into Windows XP.
