How to Resize a Primary NTFS Partition

    • 1). Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Control Panel." Enter "partition" into the Control Panel search text box. Click "Create and format disk partitions."

    • 2). Right-click your main primary partition. Select "Extend" if you want to add more disk space to the partition. Click "Shrink" if you want to make it smaller. This opens a new window.

    • 3). Enter the new partition space settings for the primary partition. The partition size is set in megabytes. This means if you want to set the partition with 15 gigabytes of space, you need to enter "15000" into the text box. One thousand megabytes is equal to 1 gigabyte.

    • 4). Click "Shrink" if you are making the partition smaller. If you are expanding the partition, click "Next." View the settings and click "Finish" to expand the partition size.
