- 1). Download photos of a bear in a position you want to depict, such as walking, resting or hunting (see Resources).
- 2). Sketch a light outline of the bear's body in pencil. Rough out the bear's body using a rectangle for the body and limbs, a triangle for the head and circles for the eyes and ears. Smooth the shapes into a refined image, and add surrounding details such as trees, rocks, hills and a stream.
- 3). Dip your brush into blue for the sky. Paint the background. Use greens, browns and blues to depict trees, rocks and water. Let the rocks and foliage dry slightly, and then press a crushed piece of tissue paper on the painted paper to give texture.
- 4). Dip your brush into the appropriate hue for the bear's fur, such as brown or black. Add other colors in spots on the body, such as ochre or yellow where sunlight hits the body. Put a bit of red to indicate the bear's tongue, and use white for the fangs.
- 5). Download a paint-by-numbers scene of a cute koala bear, and print it out (see Resources). This is an appropriate starting point for a child or a beginner. Find the first number, and its corresponding color in the legend. Dip your brush into the first color, and paint all areas labeled with that color's number. Continue with each of the numbered colors until you have a completed bear.
