- 1). Position plastic masking sheeting beneath the polyvinyl chloride. Spread absorbent canvas drop cloths over the top of the sheeting.
- 2). Scrape as much dried paint from the polyvinyl chloride as possible, using a flexible putty knife. Don't use durable metal scrapers, or you could cut gouges into the PVC; instead, use a plastic putty knife.
- 3). Apply turpentine to the polyvinyl chloride, using a natural-bristled brush. Spread or drape more plastic masking sheeting over the turpentine to delay evaporation.
- 4). Let the turpentine loosen the paint for five minutes before lifting the plastic sheeting. Scrape the loose paint from the PVC, using your putty knife and 100-grit sandpaper.
- 5). Repeat the stripping procedure until all of the polyvinyl chloride is free from paint.
- 6). Wash the polyvinyl chloride with a water-based detergent; rinse the PVC with wet rags or using a hose.
