What Are Advanced BIOS Features?

    Full Screen Logo

    • This setting allows the user to hide the POST screen (all those lines of code that flash on the screen as the system boots up) and instead show a logo. The logo is not user created but one supplied by the computer motherboard manufacturer.

    First, Second, Third Boot Device

    • The drop-down menu next to the first, second and third device has options to boot from floppy, CD-ROM, USB or hard drive. Depending on what devices are part of the system, the drop-down menu items may vary. Here, the user can set what device the system uses to boot first, second and third.

    Hard Drive Priority

    • This setting is for users who have multiple hard drives installed on their system. It allows the user to select which hard drive boots first. This setting is good for users who have multiple operating systems installed on one machine.

    Boot Virus Detection

    • The boot virus detection setting checks for viruses on floppy disks or CDs.

    HDD SMART Monitor

    • The acronym SMART stands for Smart Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology. This setting, when enabled, alerts users to hard drive failures.

    Password Check

    • This setting allows users to set a password for their system. By enabling Password Check, the system asks for a system password when the system is powered on or getting into the BIOS menu.
