Windows Installer is the program that launches and installs Windows programs on computers and devices. Windows Installer files and instructions are kept within MSI files. MSI packages contain all the information that a program needs for installation. MSI deployment programs allow users to create, troubleshoot and deploy Windows Installer applications. - Flexera Software's AdminStudio is an MSI creation and deployment tool that allows users to ensure that they have a working application package. Users can also employ this tool to migrate programs and applications to new upgrades to Windows operating systems. They can create one deployment application that will be compatible with both 32- and 64-bit computers. Other features include the ability to run tests on deployment packages, and AdminStudio will automatically fix any errors that it encounters. The program can also convert any MSI package into a virtual package, and users can manage both virtual and MSI packages with AdminStudio's database.
- WPKG works solely with the Windows operating system. It allows users to pull installations from or move data to a computer workstation from a central server. It also has the ability to run installations automatically without the need of an end-user to begin the program. WPKG runs as an open source software program, meaning that assistance is provided by a group of users and developers. Other features of WPKG include the ability to delete or upgrade previously installed programs.
- Capython's Advanced Installer may already be installed on many newer versions of Windows. A user should check the system before downloading the software. A freeware edition is available for this software program, but it does not have the same features of the full version. The full version must be purchased. This tool allows users to create and deploy Windows Installer applications. With the Advanced Installer, users can build programs using either the command line (Command Prompt) or XML (extensible markup language). Users can also make changes to MSI programs using the tools within the Command Prompt.
