- 1). Load the floor buffer with a medium-grit screening pad. Run it back and forth over the whole engineered wood floor, going with the direction of the planks. The screen should dull any shine on the surface.
- 2). Take up the dust with a vacuum cleaner.
- 3). Reload the buffer with a fine-abrasion screening pad. Screen the floor again, as before, getting the surface smooth and flat. Vacuum the floor.
- 4). Run tackcloths over the floor by hand, picking up any residual dust.
- 5). Pour polyurethane floor gloss in one corner of the floor, away from the entrance, covering an area about the size of your floor gloss applicator. Place the applicator in the polyurethane and slowly drag it back along the floor, with the direction of the planks. Get it smooth and flat. Pour more gloss as needed. Do the whole floor, working your way across the room in courses. Let the polyurethane set for eight hours.
- 6). Sand the polyurethane lightly by hand with extra-fine sandpaper, to dull the surface. Wipe it down with tackcloths.
- 7). Add a second coat of polyurethane in the same manner as you did the first coat. Let it dry, sand it by hand and apply a third coat. Let it set for a full day.
