- 1). Pull the weeds or other vegetation where you want to plant Viguiera goldeneye. It should be in an area that receives full or partial sun.
- 2). Till or dig the ground with a garden fork to a depth of 8 inches. You don’t need to amend the soil with compost; Viguiera goldeneye is a wildflower and will grow in almost any soil.
- 3). Level the soil with the back of your rake. Remove any sticks, rocks or hard clods that you find.
- 4). Allow the soil to settle for a week. This keeps the seeds from falling too deeply into the soil, where they won’t grow.
- 5). Scatter the seeds over the ground. Try to keep seed distribution even.
- 6). Compress the seed into the soil with a lawn roller. If you don’t have a lawn roller, place a board over the soil and press down. Carefully pick up the board, and move it until you have compressed the entire area.
- 7). Water the soil gently with a sprayer. Keep the soil moist until the seeds germinate. Seeds germinate in about three weeks.
- 8). Thin the plants to allow 18 to 24 inches between them, if you want a more formal look. Do this when the plants are 3 inches tall. Thinned plants can be moved to another section of your garden.
- 9). Water to keep the ground moist until the plants are established. You should also water if there is a severe drought in your area.

Deadhead the flowers through the season, or leave them and they will go to seed. The plants will self-seed and fill in open areas.
