DIY: Painting Black Granite

    • 1). Tape off the area you are going to paint with blue painters tape.

    • 2). Prime the countertop with a base of dark gray or black primer. Allow the primer to dry before proceeding.

    • 3). Cover the primer with a coat of glossy back paint. Again, allow this to dry before adding more paint.

    • 4). Sponge on a layer of gold paint. Do this lightly. Don't press the sponge all the way into the paint nor all the way into the surface of the counter. You want light flecks of gold, not drips.

    • 5). Sponge on a layer of copper paint in the same manner as the gold paint.

    • 6). Sponge on a layer of white paint. This time press slightly harder to create more white specks than gold or copper ones.

    • 7). Roll on two layers of latex glazing with a small-nap roller brush.
