Mini DV Tapes are Still Good and Still Around!

While solid state memory cameras have entered the video camera market in force, Mini DV Tape is still the most used video camera media. It allows high quality video with HD formatting and is an easy to use inexpensive and reliable way to shoot your professional or home movies.

While many of the new SD Card and solid state drive cameras are of high quality, they gave yet to produce an inexpensive way to capture the quality for the cost of Mini DV. Hard drives or memory cards for your camera can cost upwards of $300 and you can generally only shoot 1 to 2 hours of video. Once your memory device is full you need to replace it to continue to shoot requiring you to own an expensive additional memory device.

Panasonic came out with a new version of its highly successful PQ series, the PQUS series, and the newer tape that has fewer dropouts and is better suited for use in today's HD cameras. Sony has released a new HD line of Tapes the HDM63VG series and DVM63HD series tapes are also designed to maximize the performance of your Mini Dv Cameras. TDK continues to make their reliable workhorse tape the DVM60.

Mini DV is an archival tape that you can shoot and save in a safe place. You can download it onto a hard drive for easy access and editing, and not worry that a hard drive failure will cause a catastrophic data loss of valuable footage that is irreplaceable.
